“Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that SECURITY and LIBERTY may prosper together.” – President Eisenhower (Farewell Speech)

Stossel made a very astute point: Since many of us can see clearly, how Government intervention into our economy is a disaster, then it only stands to reason that Government intervention into the affairs of foreign nations should/would be no different.

Very insightful indeed. For a long time, I’ve been in favor of stopping our policing of the world and concentrate our military effort solely on defense. I’m all in favor of humanitarian help around the world, but that should be done with private charitable organizations, not with the military. I believe we should be spending money figuring out defense weapons we could use to negate a nuclear attack attempt by another nation.

I really don’t believe the U.S. is capable of keeping Iran, South Korea or any other nation from getting nuclear weapons, or weapons of mass destruction. Now, in our current world, it is not WILL someone attack with a nuclear weapon, it is WHEN will someone attack with a nuclear weapon. We currently have no defense weapon in the case of that scenario (that I know of).

I believe we need to concentrate our efforts in coming up with new technology that will make our enemies’ technology worthless and also concentrate our efforts in espionage to make sure we KNOW what our enemies are up to. Thanks for the video.

You’re welcome Jackie! I agree with both you and Stossel. Especially in these times, when our enemy is not another country’s military, not in uniform, and can come from a multitude of directions, we do NOT need lethargic military deployments overseas. We definitely need defense missile shields, as you alluded to, and a “streamlined military” that can respond quickly to any threats that are nearing OUR shores.

In the case with nuclear weapons, I am more concerned that they will be handed off to terrorists then a foreign Government ordering them to be dropped on another country. That would be “national” suicide on their part!
